Falun Dafa practitioners around the world celebrate May 13 as World Falun Dafa Day and organize rallies, exhibitions and conferences. Since, during lock-down period, outside activities are not allowed, India’s Falun Dafa practitioners decided to celebrate the 21st anniversary of World Falun Dafa Day on-line this year.
Falun Dafa, also known as Falun Gong, was introduced to the public in China in 1992 by Master Li Hongzhi. From a remote age, this practice has been passed down from a Master to a single disciple. Today, it is being practiced by more than 10 crore people in over 120 countries.
In addition to the teachings, Falun Dafa also offers a set of five simple meditative exercises based on slow, gentle movements and meditation that are easy to learn and are taught absolutely free of charge. The practice has many beneficial effects and can help uplift one’s physical health, spiritual well-being, and moral character, not to mention its undeniable positive influence on the community and society as a whole.
Falun Gong and its founder, Mr. Li Hongzhi, have been awarded with over 1500 awards and proclamations worldwide. Mr. Li Hongzhi has also been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize and the Sakharov Award for Independent Thoughts.
Falun Dafa in India
Falun Dafa was introduced in India in 2000 and officially registered in 2004. Since then, the exercise and meditation practice has been introduced in schools and colleges across the length and breadth of the country. Falun Dafa was well received by the Police academies in Delhi and Hyderabad. Falun Dafa practitioners have been invited by several large organizations to introduce it to their senior executives. Interestingly, jail superintends have also requested an introduction of the exercise and meditation practice to inmates.
Persecution in China
Due to its health benefits and spiritual teachings, Falun Gong became so popular in China that by 1999, 7 to 10 Crore people started practicing it. The membership of the Chinese Communist Party was 6 Crore at that time. The then Chinese premier Jiang Zemin considered Falun Gong a threat to his sovereignty and despite its peaceful nature, banned it on July 20, 1999. For the last 20 years, Falun Gong practitioners are facing brutal persecution in China which continues to this day.
